It just drives me crazy that you cannot automate your backups on Substack, it wouldn't solve everything but that would already be a first step towards a more professional platform...

Right!! But even if you manually take one, you can’t restore it. We need both!

Hi MaAnna! I'm the author of the "sync / backup your substack drafts" Chrome extension you linked to -- thank you for highlighting it, and thank you for highlighting this important issue and pushing Substack to add in these features. I completely agree that Substack's lack of full backup & restore features is very concerning for a platform that prides itself on empowering content authors & putting authors first. (Their lack of an official API is concerning for the same reasons.)

FYI, I've just updated my chrome extension to also now pull down published content, and I also have some longer-term ideas I've been kicking around for being able to restore or update drafts from the extension's backups. (Though as you point out, publication dates would be hard to properly restore with an unofficial solution like this.) Eventually I'd like to also extend the code to also archive images and comments.

I do want to respectfully push back a bit on your discouragement to others regarding using the chrome extension as a temporary solution, and invite people to try it out for themselves.

I am truly finding hourly backups of my Substack drafts and posts to be very helpful in providing peace of mind in the absence of any official // built-in solution.

I have also in the past found that it can at times be easier to get official attention on a feature request when there is an unofficial version being used enough to demonstrate demand. ;)

Thank you again for your work on this issue!

Thank you for voicing this issue. I am worried abut the same thing. Currently, I have a copy of my posts or notes, in Google Docs, Grammarly and also on an external HD. But a proper backup and restore solution on Substack is a much needed feature.

My publication is small right now, but I would hate to think about losing even that. Thank you for pointing this out.

Such an important point, MaAnna -- Substack really needs to give us a way to back up ALL of our content and to be able to easily restore it. I tried clicking the support button and their email address didn't populate to my outgoing email. I'll contact them some other way to request this change,
